Over 500,000 candidates to contest across 18 counties as party deploys digital voting technology for nationwide exercise

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced its preparedness to conduct the Repeat Phase III Grassroots Elections scheduled for Saturday, 14 March 2026, in a major exercise expected to mobilise millions of party members across the country.

In a media briefing ahead of the vote, the party confirmed that the elections will take place in 18 counties, including Kiambu County, Murang’a County, Kirinyaga County, Nyeri County, Nyandarua County, Embu County, Meru County, Samburu County, Trans-Nzoia County, Uasin Gishu County, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Nandi County, Baringo County, Laikipia County, Kericho County, Bomet County and Vihiga County.

According to the party, more than 500,000 candidates have registered to contest for twenty grassroots leadership positions at polling centre level.

The candidates represent a wide spectrum of groups, including women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious leaders, professionals, and micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) traders.

The exercise is expected to attract significant participation, with the party projecting around eight million voters across 8,819 polling centres nationwide.

To enhance efficiency and transparency, UDA said it has deployed end-to-end digital technology to manage the voting and results process.

More than 9,000 electronic voting tablets have already been distributed to polling centres to facilitate the exercise. Results from the elections will be made publicly available through the party’s official website.

Voting will begin at 8:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m., with party officials overseeing the process at polling centres across the participating counties.

The party said the exercise will culminate in the election of approximately 150,000 grassroots officials, who will form the foundation of UDA’s organisational structure at the community level and strengthen the party’s grassroots representation.

UDA noted that the elections represent a key milestone in consolidating internal democracy and strengthening participation within the party’s grassroots structures.

Party officials urged members across the participating counties to turn out in large numbers and take part in the exercise.
