Truck Drivers Benefits from Free Eye Screening in Makueni County

Over  2000 Truck Drivers to Benefit from Free Eye Screening  to Boost Road Safety 

Bamburi Cement, under its Corporate Social Investment program, in partnership with Superior Homes Kenya, will host a free eye screening campaign for truck drivers at Supastop in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County.

Themed “Healthy Eyes, Safer Roads,” the initiative will run from 7th to 11th October 2025, targeting over 2,000 truck drivers along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa highway.

Drivers will undergo eyesight tests, receive corrective eyewear such as spectacles, and benefit from health education on vision care and wellness.

By addressing vision-related health challenges, the campaign aims to improve driver wellbeing and reduce accidents caused by impaired eyesight.

According to data from the 2023 economic survey, road safety remains an urgent concern, with 4,690 road fatalities in Kenya in 2022 linked to driver health, and 10.7 per cent of drivers previously screened found unfit to drive due to vision-related complications.

Speaking during the launch of the campaign, Superior Homes CSR Co-ordinator Faith Wambui noted that Supastop was created as a secure and modern stopover facility for drivers, adding that the campaign offers them an opportunity to support the facility’s vision of promoting the wellbeing of drivers.

“By offering free eye screenings and corrective care, we are not only serving the transport community but also contributing to safer highways for all road users.

The ‘Healthy Eyes, Safer Roads’ campaign marks a significant milestone in strengthening partnerships between the private sector, government agencies, and the transport community, while reinforcing the role of Superior Homes Kenya in driving sustainable community impact.

Supastop, developed by Superior Homes and launched in 2024, is a modern truck stop offering essential amenities including secure parking, accommodation, eateries, restrooms, showers, a fuel station, health facility, convenience stores, and prayer rooms.

By hosting the screening campaign, Supastop is positioning itself not only as a rest stop but as a trusted hub for safety, wellness, and reliability for drivers along the highway.

Other partners supporting the initiative include the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), County Transport Committee, Kenya Transporters Association, Kilome Hospital, and transport partners.
