Outdoor music, camping and social experience set in the scenic landscape of Lukenya
Conservancy.
Taking place from 1st to 2nd May, the Hangout brings together music, food,
community and the outdoors in what has become one of a growing number of destination
events redefining Nairobi’s social calendar.
Designed as an overnight experience rather than a one-night event, Geco Hangout invites
guests to leave the city behind and step into a slower, more social rhythm for the weekend.
The event combines DJ sets, live music performances, food and bar experiences, outdoor
games, camping and open-air social spaces, creating an environment where guests can
move freely between music, conversation, food and the landscape from afternoon through to
late night and into the following morning.

Unlike traditional festivals, Geco Hangout is intentionally structured as a hangout rather than a
heavily programmed event.
The focus is on atmosphere and community — music playing as
the sun sets, bonfires and conversations at night, and a relaxed morning in the outdoors before
the return to the city.
The result is an experience that sits somewhere between a music festival,
a camping trip and a social gathering, reflecting a broader shift in how Nairobi’s urban
community is choosing to spend its leisure time.
Over the past few years, destination gatherings like Geco Hangout have become increasingly
important within Nairobi’s cultural landscape.
As the city grows and urban life becomes busier, many young professionals, creatives and entrepreneurs are seeking experiences that offer both
social connection and temporary escape… events that combine travel, music, food and nature
into one shared experience.
dcdthis way, Geco Hangout is part of a wider movement toward
experiential, community-driven events that extend beyond traditional nightlife and into the
outdoors.
The Hangout is organised by Geco Tribe, a Geco Cafe – Nairobi-based collective known for
creating community-focused experiences around music, food and culture. Through a series of
events, pop-ups and gatherings, the group has built a reputation for bringing together a diverse,
creative and socially engaged audience, and Geco Hangout represents one of their flagship
destination experiences.
Accommodation and attendance options are structured around the experience itself, with guests
able to choose between solo camping packages, shared tent packages,
bring-your-own-tent options and non-camping passes, allowing attendees to participate in
the Hangout in a way that suits their preferred level of comfort and immersion.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of Lukenya’s open landscapes and rock formations, the
event offers a rare combination of music, nature and community within close proximity to
Nairobi, making it possible to leave the city on Saturday and return on Sunday having
experienced a full weekend away.
“Geco has always been about creating space for music to breathe and for artists to be
seen and heard in a way that feels honest. With Geco Hangout, we wanted to bring that
same energy into the open, set against the landscape of Lukenya, where the
environment itself becomes part of the experience. It’s about championing the music
scene in Kenya while creating something that feels both grounded and expansive.”
— Mateus Finato
As Nairobi’s cultural scene continues to evolve, events like Geco Hangout point toward a
growing appetite for gatherings that are not just about entertainment, but about experience,
environment and community — a reminder that sometimes the most memorable social
moments happen not in the city itself, but just beyond it.
