LG Debuts Energy-Efficient Dishwashers in Kenya Amid Surge in Smart Home Demand;

  • Designed based on local consumer insights, the new range addresses key concerns such as water scarcity and space constraints, offering up to 566% water savings and built-in or freestanding options for diverse home layouts.

LG Electronics has unveiled a new line of high-performance dishwashers in Kenya, marking a strategic expansion of its smart home solutions portfolio in East Africa.

(L-R), LG Electronics East Africa Assistant Manager for Home Appliances, Faith Njoroge; Head of Marketing, Jane Kariuki and Head of Go-to-Market, Peter Wanjohi, discuss key features of the newly launched LG dishwasher range during the launch event in Nairobi. The innovative models combine energy efficiency, water conservation, and advanced technologies such as TrueSteam™ and Auto Open Dry, underscoring LG’s commitment to smarter, more sustainable living solutions for Kenyan homes.

The launch event, held in Nairobi, introduced three models, two stand-alone units in Matte Black and Platinum Silver, and one built-in model — all designed for the modern Kenyan household.

This launch comes at a critical juncture in the region’s domestic technology landscape.Kenya’s urban population has already grown to nearly one third of the entire population[1], driven by rural-to-urban migration and demographic shifts, according to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

With more dual-income households and smaller living spaces, the demand for smart, compact, and time-saving home appliances is at an all-time high.

Speaking during the launch, LG Electronics East Africa Regional Marketing Head, Jane Kariuki,  underscored the brand’s commitment to aligning innovation with local relevance.

“These products are the result of extensive market research and listening closely to what Kenyan families truly need,” Kariuki said. “We are introducing a new way of living, where smart technology becomes an essential partner in the home.”

The newly launched range incorporates LG’s flagship TrueSteam technology, which uses high-temperature steam as well as ensuring eliminating stubborn stains and less water spots on glasses, offering a superior level of hygiene.

Combined with the Auto Open Dry feature, which automatically opens the door after the wash cycle to aid drying, these machines ensure spotless, moisture-free dishes without manual intervention.

This feature also significantly reduces energy consumption by eliminating the need for heated drying cycles.

According to LG, the models have been designed with energy conservation in mind. Kenyan consumers can expect up to 566% lower water usage compared to manual dishwashing[2], a particularly important feature in a country where many urban households report concerns about water reliability.

Electricity consumption is also optimized through inverter technology that adjusts usage based on load size, contributing to lower utility bills, a growing concern for middle-class families in the current inflationary environment.

LG’s Home Solutions Product Marketing Manager for East Africa emphasized the versatility of the range. “These dishwashers are designed to blend into Kenyan homes and lives, with the built-in options for space-conscious layouts and the freestanding variants for households that need flexibility.”

Industry analysts note that the regional market for dishwashers is still in its infancy. However, Kenya has emerged as a key growth market, driven by increasing urbanization, rising disposable incomes, and shifting attitudes toward domestic labor and time management. LG’s move to localize its dishwasher offering, positions the company to lead this fast-growing segment.

In Kenya, LG has seen double-digit growth in its home appliances division for three consecutive years, with expectations that the new dishwasher line will accelerate this momentum.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability. All three models meet European Union energy efficiency standards and are built using recyclable components and materials designed to reduce environmental impact.

developers, hospitality businesses, and serviThis aligns with Kenya’s green transition goals outlined in its Vision 2030 blueprint, particularly around sustainable consumption and eco-responsible urban development.

Retail partners present at the launch expressed confidence in market potential. With local distribution already underway through LG Brand Shops, online platforms, and major electronics retailers, the company is targeting both individual consumers and corporate clients such as property developers, hospitality businesses, and serviced apartment operators.
