Defending SportPesa National Sevens Circuit champions KCB Rugby Club opened their title defence in style, edging Kabras Sugar RFC 19-12 in the final of the season-opening Prinsloo 7s at Nakuru Athletics Club.

The win gave KCB their first Prinsloo 7s title since 2017, closing out an eight-year drought and securing the Bankers a KSh 150,000 winners’ cheque.

KCB Hold Firm to Beat Kabras

Kabras Sugar made the brighter start, going 5-0 up when Mike Lukusu capitalised on a loose KCB kickoff the Bankers couldn’t gather.

KCB hit back without delay as Kenya Sevens international George Ooro touched down for their opening try, the conversion sailing through to put the defending champions in front.

Their lead was extended after Jackson Lukeki was sin-binned for an illegal intervention, leaving Kabras a man short. KCB made the most of the advantage, with Elvis Olukusi and Vincent Onyala both scoring to push the lead to 19-5 at the break.

Kabras weren’t done yet. Brian Mutua’s converted try after the restart brought it back to 19-12 and set up a nervy finish, but KCB’s defence stood firm to seal the win and open their title defence with silverware.
