APS Bomet head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo has been voted the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for April following a commanding run of results that has reshaped his side’s season.
The former Kenyan international oversaw a perfect month for APS Bomet, with the team registering maximum points from all their fixtures and strengthening their push to remain in the top tier.
The award, however, arrived during a deeply emotional period for Omollo, who is still coming to terms with the loss of his wife earlier this year.
On Mother’s Day, during the award presentation, Pamzo paid a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, known fondly as “Mama Denzel,” dedicating the honour to her memory and acknowledging her role in his coaching journey.
“Today being Mother’s Day, I want to dedicate this award to my beloved wife, Mama Denzel. She was an inspiration to me and supported me throughout my coaching journey. I miss her, and this award is for her,” he said after receiving the trophy and KES 75,000 cash prize from league sponsors SportPesa.
On the field, APS Bomet delivered a flawless April campaign, recording wins over Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars, and Posta Rangers, while maintaining clean sheets across all three matches.
The consistency marked a significant shift in form for the club, which had endured a challenging spell earlier in the season but has since rediscovered momentum at a critical stage.
Despite the strong run, Omollo remained grounded, stressing that the job is far from complete as APS Bomet continue their battle to secure safety.
“We know there’s still work to do to secure safety, so I’m challenging the boys to keep working hard. There is still a lot of football to play, and anything can happen,” he noted.
The team’s resurgence has extended beyond April, with APS Bomet now on a five-match winning streak and unbeaten in eight consecutive games. Their latest 2-0 away win against Mathare United further boosted their survival hopes.
The transformation under Pamzo has drawn attention across the league, with many pointing to improved defensive organisation and renewed belief within the squad.
Mara Sugar head coach Francis Xavier finished as the runner-up for the monthly award after also guiding his team to three wins, though with one additional fixture played in the period under review.
