SportPesa has weighed in on the ongoing developments within the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), urging a transparent and accountable process while reaffirming its long-term commitment to the growth of Kenyan football.
In a statement released on Monday, the betting firm, which serves as title sponsor of the SportPesa League under a 10-year partnership, said its primary focus remains the stability, integrity, and continued development of the game and the broader sports ecosystem.
The company acknowledged what it described as “meaningful progress” in Kenyan football under FKF President Hussein Mohammed, highlighting a series of recent achievements on both the local and international stage.
Among the milestones cited were Kenya’s successful co-hosting of the African Nations Championship 2025, the Junior Starlets’ historic qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the Harambee Starlets securing a spot in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026. SportPesa also pointed to Kenya’s hosting of the FIFA Women’s Series as a sign of growing international confidence in the country’s football infrastructure.
At the domestic level, the firm noted improved organisation of the top-flight league, increased visibility for clubs and players, and stronger engagement with commercial partners, signalling renewed momentum within the local game.
SportPesa further observed efforts to rebuild trust in football governance, citing enhanced collaboration among stakeholders and the strengthening of national team structures as key steps toward a more stable football environment.
“These gains are contributing to a more vibrant football ecosystem that benefits players, fans, and the broader sports economy,” the statement read.
However, the company stressed that the allegations currently facing FKF must be addressed through a thorough and independent process. It called for any investigations — including potential leadership changes — to adhere strictly to due process.
SportPesa urged a swift, fair, and transparent resolution that safeguards the progress made in recent years while upholding accountability across the sport.
The firm reiterated its position as a committed partner to Kenyan football, pledging continued support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the game’s commercial viability and creating opportunities for local talent, while championing integrity and sustainable growth within the sector.
