President William Ruto has awarded the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart to Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), in recognition of his significant contributions to Kenya’s infrastructure development.
The ceremony was held at State House in Nairobi, celebrating Adesina’s pivotal role in the Last Mile Connectivity and Lake Turkana Wind Power projects.
Adesina, who has been at the helm of AfDB since 2015, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the president, saying, “I am really humbled by your incredible kindness. What a great honor, what a rare privilege, what a historic recognition. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr. President.”

Meanwhile, the Lake Turkana Wind Power project, completed in 2019, is one of Africa’s largest wind farms and plays a critical role in supplying renewable energy to Kenya, underscoring the country’s dedication to sustainable development.
