As the planting season nears, the Ministry of Agriculture is urging farmers nationwide to procure subsidized fertilizer from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots.
Speaking in Narumoru during a presidential tour of the Mount Kenya region, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe reassured farmers that affordable fertilizer is readily available at NCPB stores.
He emphasized the importance of farmers taking advantage of this opportunity as they prepare for planting.
CS Kagwe highlighted that the subsidized fertilizer program is a key component of the government’s strategy to provide farmers with access to high-quality inputs at reasonable prices.
Acknowledging the increasing demand for fertilizer, Kagwe stated that the ministry is actively working to replenish stocks across the country.
The subsidy initiative is designed to significantly boost crop yields, strengthen national food security, and assist smallholder farmers in lowering their production expenses.
During the Mount Kenya tour, leaders also visited Naromoru Market, where they interacted with traders.
Discussions centered on the crucial role of structured markets in stabilizing agricultural produce prices, minimizing post-harvest losses, and fostering stronger connections between farmers and potential buyers.
