IVECO re-enters EA market with Ksh. 3.2 Bn assembly plant

Italian automaker, IVECO has on Thursday announced its expansion plans in East Africa through an industrial and commercial partnership with Global Motors Centre (GMC).

The Turin-based vehicle corporation will invest a Kshs.2.3 Billion for assembly plants in Nairobi and Mombasa including other major towns in Kenya as they seek to create job opportunities at the same time transfer European Technology to Kenya.

GMC a company which is part of the TransAfrica Motors Limited (TAM) group will be responsible for the assembly and distribution of the brand’s full product range in the region.

Fabio De Serafini, IVECO Africa & Middle East Business Director said that they are confident that together they will meet their 2 customers’ needs to their full satisfaction thanks to the renewed local presence.
IVECO designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, off-road trucks, and vehicles for applications such as off-road missions.

“We are very pleased to introduce our industrial and commercial initiative with IVECO, aimed at offering tailor made and locally assembled Trucks representing the Full IVECO Product offering.” Hussein Abadi, GMC’s Managing Director said.

The partnership, according to Abadi will create employment opportunities as it seeks to train around 500-600 people to pass Technical know-how in manufacturing of European Vehicles and Technology.

“We will Support contracting, manufacturing and the transport industries in Kenya by providing best Commercial brand of Vehicle at the most competitive prices’’ He added.

The brand’s wide range of products include the Daily, a vehicle that covers the 3 – 7.2 ton vehicle weight segment, the Eurocargo from 6 – 19 tons, the Trakker and the Stralis, both over 16 tons. In addition, the IVECO Astra brand builds off-road trucks, rigid and articulated dumpers as well as special vehicles.

IVECO employs close to 21,000 individuals globally. It manages production sites in 7 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and Latin America where it produces vehicles featuring the latest advanced technologies. 4,200 sales and service outlets in over 160 countries.
