AXA Global Healthcare has announced a landmark partnership with Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya Limited, marking a significant step in the company’s long-term strategy for Africa.
The collaboration, supported by an exclusive distribution agreement with Executive Healthcare Solutions Limited (EHS), positions AXA for accelerated growth in the international private medical insurance (IPMI) market.
Under the agreement, effective 1 October 2025, all AXA Global Healthcare policies in Kenya will be underwritten locally by Old Mutual. The arrangement combines AXA’s international healthcare standards with Old Mutual’s local market expertise, ensuring regulatory compliance while delivering premium service to customers.
Karim Idilby, Chief Growth Officer at AXA Health International, said: “Partnering with Old Mutual is a milestone in our global expansion and reflects our commitment to Africa. Their leadership in Kenya and the wider region makes them the ideal partner as we focus on the Individuals and SMEs segments. Together, we can deliver meaningful value while building stronger local ties.”

Japheth Ogalloh, Managing Director of Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya, said: “This collaboration allows us to merge trusted local underwriting with AXA’s world-class international health coverage. The result is high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of individuals and businesses across Kenya.”
The partnership was formally unveiled with the launch of the Executive Global Health Plan, attended by Old Mutual Group CEO Arthur Oginga, M.I.C Global Risk & EHS Chairman Shiraz Maherali, EHS CEO Aly Maherali, AXA Chief Growth Officer Karim Idilby, and Old Mutual Managing Director Japheth Ogalloh. The plan aims to redefine premium healthcare access, offering globally supported but locally delivered solutions.
In addition, AXA has secured an exclusive distribution arrangement with Executive Healthcare Solutions, which includes transferring EHS’s existing IPMI customer portfolio across multiple African countries for renewals effective 1 August 2025. The agreement covers both individual and SME clients, while the two companies will collaborate to attract new customers in targeted markets.
EHS will act as the sole distributor for the Global Executive Health Plan (GEHP), designed to provide seamless coverage that aligns with existing client benefits while offering enhanced global and regional protection.
Andy O’Cain, Global Head of Distribution at AXA Health International, commented: “Our aim is to become the leading IPMI provider in East Africa. This partnership gives us the platform to do so. Building on successful collaborations, including with UAE market leader Daman Insurance, combining EHS’s regional expertise with AXA’s global strength uniquely positions us to serve both existing and new clients.”
EHS CEO Aly Maherali added: “Our understanding of the African market enables us to deliver solutions that clients truly need. Partnering exclusively with AXA allows us to offer globally backed healthcare plans, giving our clients confidence in today’s complex health environment. This partnership is key to reimagining global healthcare in Africa.”
This collaboration comes on the heels of AXA Global Healthcare’s recent expansion in the UAE, reinforcing its strategy to strengthen its footprint in key international markets.
